Turn titles into URL slugs and pinyin

Turns titles and product names into URL-friendly slugs: lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens, no spaces or special characters. English titles are normalized (diacritics stripped, Café → cafe); Chinese titles are transliterated to tone-less pinyin by default (你好世界 → ni-hao-shi-jie), with options to keep the Chinese characters as a Unicode slug or strip them entirely. The output includes the URL-encoded form and the length.

Slugs for articles, products and documentation

Setting a post URL while blogging: /posts/2026-year-end-review is more readable and better for SEO than /posts/10283; generating clean links for docs, portfolio pieces, and product pages; transliterating Chinese titles into pinyin slugs for legacy systems that cannot handle Unicode paths.

Unicode slugs, transliteration and URL changes

Unicode slugs (keeping Chinese characters) are perfectly valid in modern browsers and search engines — Chrome shows the Chinese directly — but copying such a URL often yields a wall of %E4%BD%A0 escapes, which hurts shareability; for international audiences prefer pinyin or English slugs. Polyphonic characters use their most common reading (重 → zhong), so check proper nouns manually. And once a slug is published, avoid changing it: a changed URL loses existing rankings and backlinks unless you set up a 301 redirect.

Is a URL slug also a safe filename on every system?

Not necessarily. This tool generates URL slugs, not validated filesystem names. It does not check reserved device names such as CON, length limits, existing filenames or case-insensitive collisions. Check the destination filesystem rules before using a slug as a filename.
